Earlier today, we held our first Mozilla Labs Meetup in London.

About 20 people came, and whilst we sat on comfortable sofas and drank cappuccino’s, lattes and hot chocolate. Pascal Finette gave an update on current Mozilla labs projects, which spurred much conversation about: Ubiquity, Weave, Test Pilot, Bespin, Personas, Concept Series and Labs in general. It was absolutely wonderful to see how much people are interested in the Labs projects, and their interest in how Labs functions as part of Mozilla.

Forgive me for not mentioning all names, but it was lovely to see some well known faces join us, including, Chris Heilmann (Yahoo! & Accessibility Evangelist), Glyn Moody, and Glyn from the Open Rights Group. Thank you to all of you who came, and spent time with us.

We have noted some feedback for next time – here’s a round up:

— Post a loose agenda which people can add topics to (wiki-style)

— Hold lightning talks about specific Labs projects (e.g. one project per meetup)

— Possibility for others to give lightening talks on their own projects / interests (just sign up on the wiki)

— Shout louder next time! People felt others would have come if they had only known
— Have it regularly at the same time and place each month (and definitely repeat it! :))
—  Change the time to later in the day – so more people can attend

So for next time, we’ll aim for a lunch time gathering (with pizza) – already suggested a rename to “ML3” – Mozilla Labs Lunch London! Date and time to be fixed up in the next 1-2 weeks.

Thanks again to those who came, look forward to seeing you again next time, and hopefully meet some new faces too!

Yesterday, I posted some information on the Mozilla Labs guys Aza Raskin & Dan Mills coming to Europe. I wanted to pull out the Berlin bit today, as a few folks have said they can’t attend for the whole 3 days, so wont be able to make it.

Let me explain… the Labs days in Berlin next week are completely open house, you will be pleased to know. You can attend for 30 minutes or stay all day (or for all 3 days!) its up to you. There will be much going on, including the chance to sit down with the labs guys – Aza & Dan for an informal chat, and of course do some hacking if you want to. You can find out more about the many Mozilla Labs projects including Weave, Ubiquity and the Concept Series.

If you are a computer science or Interface Design student – this would be a great chance to meet the folks behind Mozilla. Please drop by. 🙂

Come to c-base venue on Rungestrasse 20, 10179 Berlin between these times:

Tuesday 2:30pm-7pm, Oct 21st. Berlin. – Hack Day 1
Wednesday 10:30am-7pm, Oct 22nd. Berlin. – Hack Day 2
Thursday 10:30am-2pm, Oct 23rd. Berlin. – Hack Day 3

See you there!
